Ford Foundation Gallery
Overview
The Ford Foundation Gallery is a unique space within the Ford Foundation’s Center for Social Justice, where artists of all backgrounds tell stories of injustice through story, song, movement, images, and objects.
Working closely with the gallery team, I set out to create an identity that could live underneath the parent brand of the Ford Foundation, while at the same time maintaining a unique voice of its own.

To maintain brand harmony, the new typography was combined with the two existing Ford Foundation logo lockups to create a recognizable mark that was an extension of the parent brand. The foundation's existing logo—created with custom letterforms based on the font Avenir—meant that careful attention would be needed to make sure the word “gallery” matched the existing letterforms and created a unified look.
Black and white was chosen as the brands primary colors in order for the focus to be on the artist’s and their artwork, however in some instances a secondary orange color is used for impact.
Deliverables included a style guide, e-newsletters, business cards, stationary, and newly designed web pages for the Ford Foundation site.
The launch also required branding for the three upcoming shows; Perilous Bodies, Radical Love, and Utopian Imagination. Deliverables included creating wall signage, print collateral, and totems that would be positioned at each entrance to the Center.
